When we first started to look at veganising classic coats, this was one of the first styles we thought about. Getting the look and feel right was the challenge. Our existing vegan suede didn't create the right finish during the design process, so we did a lot of R&D and came up with this heavier-weight Italian vegan suede, one with a rougher, more traditional feel. We then bonded it to our recycled vegan shearling, made in Italy from 100% recycled polyester (rPET), to create one piece of material that flows and moves with you as you wear it.
The vegan shearling is deep, cosy and soft, the sort you wrap around you on a cold morning. Every part of the coat is lined with it, from the hood down to the bottom hem, the back and the arms, and it turns back at the front edges in cream against the tan.
The oversized hood is fully lined and pulls up against the wind. The front fastens with three matt-finish buttons made from recycled compressed paper and resin, and you can put your carry essentials into the two deep slip pockets. We finished this piece with a neatly turned over stitched hem and cuffs, cotton WVS labelling and an embroidered cotton hang loop.
Wear it over a chunky roll-neck with slim denim and tan work boots, or over a fine knit with black jeans and ankle boots. The tan sits well with brown, cream and denim; the grey takes to black and charcoal.
