I have owned two pair of these shoes, using each for about one year. The shoes are quite comfortable for running anywhere. An earlier version lacked sufficient padding which required extra insoles, but that has been remedied as of late 2021. I have two complaints, both relating to the laces tightening system, which uses a slider to hold the laces down. First, it leaves a lot of extra lace, with nowhere to put it. I tuck them into my socks, which is usually OK but looks weird and is sometimes uncomfortable. Second, and exacerbating the first issue, the contraption easily breaks, making the shoes almost useless, because the laces aren't designed to be tied in the traditional fashion and don't hold well in that position. That happened on both of my pairs. I bought another slider but it doesn't hold the laces down as well. The shoes seem to wear out within about 300 miles of running, by which time the rubber completely wore off in the heel, which became deformed. I don't think that's unusual for a running shoe.
The third pair I have purchased and will buy another pair once I've worn them out. Excellent and cruelty free.
I have owned 4 pairs of Oakes because we wear them out! Honestly the only reason I have ever replaced them is because the vibrant soles wear out. The tops still look as good as the day I bought them. I love that a percentage of sales goes to Fiona Oakes sanctuary!
I bought these to do muddy Parkruns in when it’s too muddy for regular running shoes. On the good side they’re perfectly waterproof and have fantastic grip in the mud, but on the down side they’re terrible on tarmac! Most courses seem to be a mix of surfaces, and these shoes are stiff and have very little cushion in the soles, so they’re not great for the hard surface parts of a run. It’s like running in school shoes on tarmac. I now use them for muddy walks instead, which they’re perfect for.
