A messenger sits differently to anything else you can carry. It rides across the body rather than hanging off one shoulder, which means it stays where you put it and leaves both hands free, and everything inside is one flap away rather than at the bottom of something. Ours is generously cut: the width takes a 15 inch laptop, a tablet, an A4 notebook or a hardback lying flat, and it's deep enough for an umbrella, a water bottle and the rest of the day alongside. The top handle picks it straight up off the floor or a café table, and the strap clips on to wear it over the shoulder or across the body, with a padded shoulder piece lined in vegan suede where it crosses you. Pulled round onto your back it stays put for riding a bike or anywhere you need your hands free, and it comes off entirely when you want the handle alone.
The flap closes through two metal bridges set on the front, one either side. The vegan leather straps that hang from the flap drop down through them, so there's no buckle to set and no pin to line up: the strap feeds through, the bridge holds it, and the flap sits flat against the body. Lift the strap back out and the flap swings open. Inside, a zip closes a pocket in the lining for keys, glasses and a wallet.
It's cut in our signature Italian bio-based vegan leather and lined in vegan suede, soft to the hand with a light grain. The gusset is set in as a separate piece and runs down each side, giving the bag its depth and letting it hold its shape rather than collapsing flat when it's empty.
