Our notes
These are not a pair of boots just for fashion. Our Goodyear Welt Chelsea Boots are built to last years — the cleanest silhouette in the range, made with the most respected method in shoemaking.
The Goodyear welt construction is the backbone of the boot: a traditional method with origins going back over three hundred years, taking up to eight weeks, 75 parts and over 200 operations to make a single pair. It's regarded throughout the worldwide boot-making industry as the best way to make superior boots — and it means the hard-wearing rubber outsoles, made with 10% recycled rubber and carrying a deep tread, can be replaced by stitching a new sole to the welt at good cobblers, extending the life of the boots again and again.
The uppers come in two materials: our Italian bio-based vegan leather (62–66% plant-origin materials), which you can polish to bring out a shine and keep looking new, or Italian vegan nubuck (100% PU) — one of the finest vegan suedes you can get, Ecolabel certified with a soft, luxurious feel. Either way, the boot opening comfortably hugs the ankle thanks to the cut of the uppers and the elasticated gussets — a clean line with no gap.
Inside, tan Portuguese vegan suede (100% PU) lines the boots — soft, breathable and comfortable against the foot. Underfoot, a memory foam insole sits over a traditional cork bed, poured into the shoe and moulding to your foot over time — so the fit and comfort just get better the longer you wear them. A large embroidered WVS pull tab helps pull them on.
- Upper
- Vegan Leather – Italian bio-based vegan leather (62–66% plant-origin materials) | Vegan Nubuck – Italian vegan nubuck (100% PU), one of the finest vegan suedes you can get, Ecolabel certified with a soft, luxurious feel
- Lining
- Portuguese vegan suede (100% PU) – soft and comfortable against the foot, with a breathable suede texture that helps keep feet fresh
- Insole
- Memory foam insole over a traditional cork bed – poured into the shoe and moulded to your foot over time, so they get more comfortable the more you wear them
- Outsole
- Hard-wearing rubber outsole made with 10% recycled rubber – a standard profile that most cobblers can resole easily when it eventually wears
- Shank
- TPU shank for stability and support through the arch – metal-free, so they can be worn through metal detectors
- Construction
- Goodyear welt construction – the most respected method in shoemaking. The upper, lining and a leather welt are stitched together, then the sole is stitched to the welt, building the shoe up in many more stages than a standard glued shoe. It can be resoled again and again by any cobbler, so it lasts for years, and the welted, sealed build holds up better in wet weather
- Water Resistance
- Vegan Leather – Water-resistant for everyday wear – keeps you dry in rain, puddles, wet streets, and most winter conditions. Just avoid heavy saturation or full submersion. | Vegan Suede – Not water-resistant – vegan suede will soak through in rain, though it won't mark or spoil when wet. Best kept for dry days, and treat with a waterproofing spray if you want some protection.
- Width
- D width fitting – a slightly wider fit with more volume than standard

I purchased these around Nov 2025 to replace similar older boots that are leaking. The boots made a good first impression on opening the box, looking sturdy and sleek. However, the material was extremely stiff. Like the other reviewer, I found the shoes rather narrow, feeling that my toes get squashed together, and I have relatively narrow feet so I believe most people would need to size up. The first few days I found them slightly jarring to wear even when driving. Luckily this improved after about 2 weeks of deliberate wearing in. Now they are OK. Two months in, they have acquired some small scruffs but still look very polished on the whole, and seem to be still keeping my feet dry. I am happy with the purchase so far and will be interested to see how long they last for.
These look really nice I can’t fault that but Ive had these for a long time now and unfortunately although the fit feels ok when first putting on the shoe they end up squashing my toes together so I can’t wear them due to the discomfort. I also found that my feet would be very cold. If you are going to buy I would recommend sizing up. Such a shame considering how much I spent on these I thought they would be a long term investment.
