The City Monk brings a bit of flair to the dress shoe ā two straps crossing the instep, fastened with metal buckles in 100% zamak (a durable zinc alloy), over a stitched cap toe traced with fine brogue perforations along the seam and heel counter. It's the shoe that gets noticed in a room full of lace-ups, without ever trying too hard.
The uppers are our Italian bio-based vegan leather (62ā66% plant-origin materials), smooth and clean-grained. Underfoot, a slim TR outsole is paired with a compressed Tunit heel (a hard-wearing rubber-resin compound) with a classic stacked finish, and a TR grip layer where it meets the ground. The heel sits at 2.5cm with a fine 0.7cm sole under the toe.
Inside, Portuguese vegan suede (100% PU) lines the shoe, soft and breathable against the foot, and the cushioned layered insoles pair a soft memory foam top layer with a recycled PU base (20% recycled PU) for comfort from first meeting to last train. Wear them where a suit needs a bit of personality, or let them sharpen up dark jeans ā monks carry both.

- Water-resistant for everyday wear ā keeps you dry in rain, puddles, wet streets, and most winter conditions. Just avoid heavy saturation or full submersion.

I bought these shoes to replace the first monks I bought within Wills 6 years ago.
Same comfort but not the same size and same feeling. The new model seems larger.
As has always been the case, I'm completely thrilled with my purchase from Will's. These shoes look, feel, and breathe like any very high-quality shoe I've ever owned and - if experience is any indicator - will wear far better than a leather shoe. Even in the absence of an ethical consideration, I would choose these shoes for those reasons, making it one of those rare instances where there is simply no real sacrifice needed in mapping one's consumption to one's ethics. Just so glad to have discovered Will's.
I donāt have to wear smart shoes daily for work but due to a trip to our London office I was required to. These shoes not only looked perfect for the setting I was in but they were comfortable all day, even for my normally trainer clad feet.
