Foxcombe Bakehouse On-the-go Original Flapjack 60g

About the brand

It started with the family farm shop in 1998

The Foxcombe Bakehouse story started more than 20 years ago. I first began baking cakes and pasties for our family farm shop in Lewdown, a small village nestled in countryside on the old A30 in Devon.

All of our cakes and confectionary are baked from the aptly-named Foxcombe Farm with the family making the move in 2003 – the farm is just minutes from where it all started many years ago in Lewdown.

In 2009 Foxcombe Bakehouse was beginning to build a strong reputation for great tasting, quality food. With that reputation demand began to grow, with a purpose-built bakery built on the farm to continue to keep customers happy.

2013 saw us win our first Taste of the West award – it was to be the first of many with more than 10 to follow in the coming years.

2019 marked the introduction of plastic-free packaging. Protecting the environment and minimising the impact we have on it as a business is a core part of the Foxcombe Bakehouse ethos.

Plastic-free packaging

The overuse of single use plastic and it’s impact on the environment has shocked the world. We’ve taken the decision that we’d like to be plastic-free and because of that, we’re incredibly proud to say that the bags we use in our packaging are no longer plastic but are made of a compostable film! Any cardboard we use is recyclable and accredited with an FSC certification (Forest Stewardship Council accredited).

Zero to Landfill

Recycling is something we can all easily do and can make a real impact on the environment. The general waste we produce is collected by a company who send zero to landfill. All of our food waste is collected and added to a local commercial anaerobic digester in order to provide renewable energy that can be fed into the national grid. Cardboard, plastic and even our printer cartridges and batteries are also recycled.

Sustainable and green energy

Just like many homeowners and businesses across the country, we’ve been using renewable energy to power our business and we’re proud to say that 100% of the electricity that goes into baking our tasty treats is now from green energy. The water supply we use is also private, helping us reduce our impact even further.

Reducing mileage and road miles

We also think it’s really important to support the local community that we’re fortunate to be based in and invest in the skills of those that live nearby. For that reason, and where possible, we always try to employ those living in the community and who don’t have to travel far to work each day. We've also taken the decision to reduce our deliveries to four days a week in order to reduce road miles.

Palm Oils and finding alternatives

Palm Oil came to many people’s attention when Iceland launched their Christmas campaign, ‘Say hello to ran-tan’. For us it’s been a focus for quite some time; we use sustainable palm oil with a RSPO (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil) certificate where no alternative can be found (we always try to find them), and our main fat has changes to be palm oil free.
